Archive for Training

If you have a new dog or a new puppy that you want to train, the best thing you can do is to enroll him to a good London dog school. Take note that even if you are confident about training your dog yourself, it is better for you to seek the help of a professional, especially if it is your dog’s first time to submit to training. This is more especially true if you don’t have any experience training dogs before.

Since the dog is not exposed to any kind of training before, it will be hard for you to introduce lessons by yourself without the guidance of a professional. Professional dog training in London offers efficient and decent trainers that know how to deal with almost every kind of dog. With their guidance, you can make sure that you can earn successful results in the end.

Moreover, dog training schools do not only train your dog. They will also train you as a dog owner. You will be surprised that you can join the trainer and your dog in several classes where you can pick up necessary knowledge and experience in training your dog. The trainer will discuss his evaluations regarding your dog and will teach you the proper things to do in order to deal with him successfully. Whether you are submitting your dog to obedience training or agility training, you can be assured that a professional training school will be much of a help for both you and your dog.

As a final note, keep in mind to find a good quality training school for your dog. There are a lot of training schools out there but not all of them are good choices. Some schools simply get too much cash from you but they do not offer quality and positive training courses for your dog. It is best for you to find a school that is earning a lot of positive feedbacks and a school that is hiring only professional and qualified trainers.

Have you poured over ever manual written about clicker training for dogs? Have you watched the videos of perfectly trained pups on the web for inspiration? Are you up-to-date with the current advancements in positive reinforcement methods? If the answer is “yes” to all of these questions – then you’re almost ready to start the training adventure!

Before you can get clickin’, you’ll need a clicker and a willing companion. A simple plastic clicker will do. Puppies are always excitable participants and can start as young as eight weeks old, and even older dogs with an average disposition can take just fine to clicker training at any age.

Simple, bite-sized tasty treats are the most common incentives used to fuel clicker training for dogs. Of course, treats (as well as the clicker) can both be phased out after the commands and behaviors are learned by heart – but until then, some kind of reward should be used as the primary reinforcement.

Your canine should be able to eat the treat in seconds, since any kind of delay can throw off the “beat” of the training session.

There are plenty of awesome accessories and dog training tools that can change the game of clicker training for the better. A wrist-strap for the clicker and an easily accessible bag for the treats are two must-haves for many trainers. Some choose to attach the treats to their waist to keep a free hand.

One tool that is too often forgotten is the handy-dandy doggie pointer. Formally known as targeting sticks, these tools are great for guiding dogs through the more complicated and physically demanding routines. Collapsible models are the best, but anything recognizable and consistent to the pooch will work.

Of course, the most important utility that every newbie needs is a reliable handbook on clicker training for dogs that can be referenced in times of uncertainty. An owner never knows when a creative pup will throw a curve ball!

A lot of people are mistaking dog training in London just to be a luxury. However, what a lot of them do not know is that dog training is a very important need. This is true not only for the dogs but more importantly, for the pet owners. A well-trained dog can be comparable to a well-taught kid. He will likely bring you no headache and trouble as long as you guarantee him getting the best education ever.

It is very important that a dog is trained properly so he will act appropriately every time. For sure, you do not want your dog ruining your home or disrespecting you simply because he does not know what is right and wrong. Proper dog training is the only thing that your dog needs in order for him to behave properly in ways that you will love and appreciate.

When your dog behaves well, every other great opportunity comes in front of him. Knowing that your dog is trained, you no longer have to leave him home when the family goes for a walk. You can assure that he will behave properly and will not cause trouble to you and other people the moment he jumps outside your door. Plus, you can always be proud to show him off to friends and relatives.

Moreover, dog training London can make your dog safe at all times. There are some courses that teach your dog to protect himself and even save other people’s lives. For instance, if your dog knows not to chase bicycles and other stuff, you can be certain that your dog will not be hit by a vehicle or he will not bite someone or he will not bring people and other animals to trouble.

Though dog training can be expensive for you, take note that this is something very important. Do your dog and yourself a favour by sending him to a good training school. If you really can’t afford sending him to a training school, try teaching him lessons yourself.

Keeping the family dog chained outside can be dangerous. This leaves them vulnerable to other dogs who wander onto the property. They can also become easily entangled by the chain and harm themselves. Female dogs in heat can also become prey to male dogs in the neighborhood. Dog kennels allow pets to enjoy the freedom of the outdoors without being chained. Kennel kits can be purchased from local home improvement stores, hardware stores, or pet shops. Pet owners handy with tools can build their own cheap dog kennel using steel or aluminum posts, fencing, a gate, and the dog kennel flooring of their choice.

Kennels can hold more than one animal depending on the size of the animals. Larger animals enjoy running and playing in a 16' x 20' area. Chain link fence is generally used for medium to larger dogs and for dogs who try to escape their living area. Wire mesh or chicken wire may be suitable for smaller dogs. If the kennel is to be free standing, four corner posts must first be securely installed into the ground. The fencing is then attached to the poles using metal or aluminum clips. A gate can be attached to one side of the fencing for access into the kennel. Kennels can also be attached to the outside wall of an existing structure such as a barn or garage. In this case, that exterior wall would substitute one side of fencing. Cheap dog kennel kits include all the necessary sections with easy instructions.

Concrete flooring with a drain allows easy cleaning of the kennel and a way for rain to drain out. Other options include wood, mulch, or small stoned gravel on the dirt. It is important that dog kennel flooring be sturdy yet not harmful to delicate paws. A shelter is also necessary for the family dog to avoid the heat, rain, or snow.

It's no question that dogs bark as a way to communicate. They obviously can't talk so they will bark at various things as their way of communicating. The problem? Sometimes dogs also bark for no reason. Luckily there is a training device that can be used to stop the unwanted barking.

A citronella collars is one of the simplest dog barking training devices and it's also very easy to use. Citronella bark collars are completely harmless to your animal - unlike the popular shock collars. Shock collars work by actually giving a shock to your animal each time they bark. Although these can be adjusted, they're still giving a shock. Some believe that shock collars are very inhumane. If you feel the same way you don't have to worry about citronella collars.

Citronella bark collars can be used both indoors and outdoors. They are also weatherproof so you don't have to worry about them getting damaged from rain, snow, heat or cold. They feature an easy on/off switch so that you don't have to keep the collar activated at all times. For instance, it might be a good idea to deactivate the collar at night so that you ARE able to hear your dog barking.

Citronella collars are very easy to use and they are also effective. Dogs do not enjoy being sprayed and some dogs will really dislike the citronella scent. Whenever your dog barks, the collar will spray a gentle mist of citronella directly towards their nose. Soon your pet will discover that when they bark, they will get sprayed and they'll be much less likely to bark.

PetSafe and Innotek are two popular manufacturers of citronella dog bark collars and their products can be easily found online at a number of retailers. If your animal has a problem with nuisance barking, a citronella collar can help promote some quiet time.

Japanese and American Akitas are a very intelligent and stubborn breed. Akita training will help you deal with the specifics for your breed. Each breed is different, even though the basic ideas are the same, the techniques are not.

They have a short attention span, so train them three or four times a day. Make sure your lessons are short. Five or ten minutes and make it fun. Don't lose your cool, if you do the dog will see himself as the leader or alpha. The alpha calls the shots.

Put a dog training collar on your puppy as soon as you get him home and let him get used to this strange device around his neck. Then add the leash and let him walk around with it on the collar. Don't let him chew on it. Distract him when he tries.

Name – Give your puppy a simple name like “Fido”, “Kahn”, “Jade” or even “Athena”. That makes it easier on both you and the dog during training.

Come - Say “Athena, come,” in a gentle, yet firm voice. Show her the treat and when she comes bounding to you praise her. If she doesn't come, gently pull on the leash all the while saying her name and enticing her with the treat.

Sit – Take a treat and hold it above his nose, make sure he doesn't lunge for it. Move your hand forward and the pup will follow with his eyes, naturally sitting so as to see the prize better. Some will back up when this happens you will need to hold his collar and gently push his rear down while saying “sit.”

Down – Hold the treat in one hand and tap the ground. When he goes down praise him and give him the treat.

Stay – Have your Akita sit and then say “Stay.” Make sure he stays for ten seconds then release him. As he grows older lengthen the time.

Heel – This is a command that the dog must walk by your side. Make sure you have your dog's attention. Say “Heel” and walk confidently, glancing down to make sure your dog stays by your side.

This will take time but with the use of a dog training collar and plenty of patience, love and attention, you will have a dog that you can be proud of.

Many pet owners who have been using a wireless dog fence has found the device extremely helpful in training their pets know their boundaries and territorial limitations. It has helped them make their pets become well-trained and eliminate some of the familiar problems associated with owning a pet. By using this device, people with dogs that love to go beyond the premises have got their problem solved.

The beauty of it is that the device requires very low maintenance. You only have to make sure that the batteries don’t run out of power so you and your pet can keep on enjoying its benefits. Despite its obvious advantages though, there are still those who are skeptical about the effectiveness of this system. Some are not comfortable with how a wireless dog fence works to keep dogs contained within the desired vicinity. They are bothered by the correctional shocks the pets will experience once they break the rule. They imagine that this “punishment” is too harsh for the animal.

The truth of the matter is, the correctional shock is nothing but a gentle vibration and is entirely harmless. It is called a correctional shock because it intends to rectify a dog’s behavior of straying far away, which could put him in danger in the long run. Another thing that puts some pet owners off from using this electronic pet fence is the fact that they have to take off the collar receiver once the pet is inside the house. This is necessary because the signal might disrupt other electrical devices in the house.

However, this is just a small snag that you have to put up with. If your dog spends most of his time outdoors, then this is something that you should not worry about. Clearly, there are plenty of advantages you can enjoy from using a wireless dog fence. It is easy to get used to and you can rest easy knowing that you and your pet will have a much easier and safer time together.

Kennels are constructed of 3 basic materials: plastic, metal and wood.  Where you are going to put the kennel and the type of use that is going to have are the main issues which will need to consider when trying to decide which kennel to buy.  Here we will discuss the benefits of plastic dog kennels compared to others.

Dogs aren’t renowned for their cleanliness and so a kennel which can be easily rinsed or scrubbed down is vital.  Being a smooth, non-porous material plastic fits the bill perfectly.  On top of this plastic is very light and so you can move it to a water source for cleaning without hurting your back.  The light weight also means that you can move it around your house or garden as needs require much more easily than you could with a metal or wooden kennel.

Being so easy to mass produce in moulds, plastic kennels are also relatively cheap and very easy to find.  Pretty much every local pet store will stock them as well as literally thousands of internet based companies.  They also come in a huge range of sizes and so you will be able to find one for everything from a Chihuahua to an Irish Wolf Hound.

If you are looking for an indoor kennel to fit in with your decor then a plastic dog kennel is perfect as you can get them in nearly every colour so that you can be sure that they will blend in with the rest of the furniture.

Before you leave your dog in his kennel overnight you will need to do some dog kennel training to make him feel comfortable and at home.  Introduce him to it gradually for short periods initially.  Put a nice cushion and some doggy treats in there and he will be happy to spend time in his new house.

Being a pet owner is more than just taking having some pet with you. For the moment you got them, you also accepted all the responsibilities that come from it. You need to feed them, give them shelter and at the same time allot some time with them and just love them. Thus, one of the many things that you need to have is accessories or things that will help a lot when you take good care of them. One thing that you need to have is dog collars.

Dogs by nature are very messy and a time run around in different directions especially if they are not yet trained. When you bring them out for a walk or a visit in the park you need to look after them because they might run a lot and hurt someone or loss themselves which is the least of the things that you want to happen. The good thing when you have these equipment is you can personalize it and had your dog’s name written on it plus the owner’s name and address so just in case your dog is lost the founder would be able to return your dog. There are a lot of deigns to choose from and shades of color and if your dog wants the stylish one you can have a lot of bling to put into it. Another is it allows the leash to be attached so that it would be easy to walk your dog. And when you have visitors at home they would not make a scene that will totally annoy your guests. Make sure that you choose the product that perfectly fits to your dog and the one that is made from leather so that it does not easily get torn or damaged.

Dog owners nowadays wants their dog to look great that is why they are looking for good products that are stylish and heighten the look of their pet. When you are looking for an accessory that will go very well with your pet, think of nothing else but the finest dog collars.

Those who invest in a dog kennel think that once they have this structure in place, they can just leave their dogs inside and then go about their business. Well, you can do that, provided your dog has been trained properly. However, without the proper training, your dogs might find it hard to adjust to their new home. So to keep you from running into any problems resulting from their difficulties in adjusting, here are some tips which you can follow.

First, have your dog’s favorite item placed inside the crate. This can be either its favorite chew toy or blanket. Small food treats can also be used if these things aren’t available. Doing this can make the dog feel more at home since it has something in the kennel that it’s familiar with.

Second, make sure you feed the dog while it’s inside the kennel. This will help instill into it that it’s okay to eat inside the structure. Now to help your pet adjust more to staying in the kennel, try to push the dish further every time you feed it. Also, try closing the door while your pet is eating and then open it when your dog’s done. With each feeding, close the door longer until it gets used to eating inside without you.

Third, no matter how long or often it whines while it’s inside the kennel; don’t let your dog out. While it may be heartbreaking for you to hear your pet cry, remember that you’re training it to learn to live in its new home. Opening the kennel door every time your dog cries won’t help it adapt to living in this structure.

Remember, training your dog to live in a dog kennel is important if you want it to adapt and enjoy staying in its new home. Although the results won’t be instantaneous, over time though, your dog will be able to make the adjustments easily.  There are many dog training books on the market today what offer advice and suggestions on how to get the best results from your kennel training efforts.
